McKenna usually sets up Ipswich in a 1-4-2-3-1 formation with the key role of two pivots building action and providing a solid team structure.
McKenna likes to be in control of matches, although this is rarely the primary objective. He is able to adapt flexibly to his opponent and react to developments on the pitch. Above all, he looks for space in the centre, so his side defenders play high and wide, allowing the two central defenders along with the pivots (Luongo, Morsy) enough space in the middle to build action from the back.
